Fargo-Moorhead stores hope for new Wild apparel soonFARGO – In the week leading up to the Fourth of July, fireworks, hotdogs and apple pies all see spikes in sales.
But in the weeks following the Fourth this year, the Minnesota Wild will likely experience a bump in cash flow.
The NHL team announced the signings of free agents Zach Parise and Ryan Suter on Wednesday, igniting a burst of excitement that rivaled many fireworks displays across the region.
So when can Wild fans in Fargo-Moorhead expect jerseys and T-shirts with numbers and names of the team’s newest duo?
Tyler Peterson, a professional sports license manager at Scheels All Sports in Fargo, said he expects to see T-shirts and jerseys of Parise – a former University of North Dakota standout – and Suter to arrive soon to the company’s locations in Fargo and Moorhead.
“I’ve been working with Reebok (Thursday) trying to figure it out,” Peterson said. “T-shirts will show up sooner than jerseys. We are hoping – which isn’t guaranteeing – that we’ll have the T-shirts by the end of next week. The jerseys, the soonest we would see them is two weeks.”
T-shirts will range from
$22-$26 and authentic jerseys will retail for $160 at Scheels.
A sales associate at
Sports City located in the West Acres Shopping Center said it was unknown on Thursday when the store would be
getting Parise and Suter apparel.
Parise, who has 194 goals and 216 assists in seven NHL seasons, will wear No. 11. That is the same number his father J.P. Parise wore when he played for the Minnesota North Stars.
Suter, a defenseman, will wear No. 20.
Peterson couldn’t speculate if the signings will lead to a dramatic increase in Wild apparel and novelty sales regionally and didn’t notice a big run on Wild merchandise on Thursday.
“I wouldn’t say there has been a huge spike,” Peterson said. “There will be more interest once the season gets closer.”
Parise and Suter will have to compete with teammate and regional favorite Matt Cullen in local jersey sales. Cullen, a former standout at Moorhead High School, wears No. 7 for the Wild.
