Moorhead police lieutenant accepts Big Lake chief positionBIG LAKE, Minn. – Joel Scharf, a Moorhead police lieutenant, has accepted a job offer to be chief of police of Big Lake, according to Todd Bodem, Big Lake city administrator.
Bodem said Scharf has verbally agreed to accept the offer, which will be formally approved at a City Council meeting set for Wednesday.
Bodem said an exact salary amount has not been set but it would likely be in the neighborhood of $82,000.
Scharf said becoming a police chief has long been one of his goals and he said he believes Big Lake will be a good fit for him.
While he said he will miss the Moorhead area, Scharf said the many friends he has made will remain his friends and he plans to stay in touch with them.
Scharf is to start his new position Aug. 1, according to Bodem.
