Grand Forks man gets 4-year sentence for having sex with 14-year-old girlGRAND FORKS - A Grand Forks man who had sex with a 14-year-old girl was sentenced to four years in prison Tuesday in Grand Forks County District Court.
Anthony Foka Nimpson Jr., 25, received credit for a year and 114 days time served and must complete sex-offender treatment, which will include registration as a sex offender.
In total, Judge Joel Medd sentenced Nimpson to 10 years, but suspended six years. Nimpson will face six years of supervised probation after his release.
Nimpson was charged with and eventually pleaded guilty to Class AA felony gross sexual imposition and could have faced life in prison.
In court Tuesday, prosecutor Meredith Larson said Nimpson admitted to having consensual sex with the teenager and knew it was against the law, but didn’t take responsibility, claiming he was seduced by her.
Nimpson, who was born in Liberia and moved to the United States when he was 20, will not face deportation, according to his attorney David Ogren. The government is not deporting people to Liberia because of unstable political situation there, Ogren said.
