Bond set for ex-ND ND insurance man accused of bilking nearly $1.5 million from clients

BISMARCK — Bond has been set for a former Bismarck-area insurance agent is accused of bilking nearly $1.5 million from clients.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that a judge set bond Tuesday for 53-year-old Brent Kitzan at $1 million cash.

During his appearance Tuesday, Kitzan told South Central District Judge David Reich that he would be requesting a court-appointed attorney.

Kitzan faces 27 felony counts relating to theft, insurance fraud and securities fraud.

Kitzan is accused of collecting premiums from clients for bogus insurance policies, taking out personal loans from clients and collecting client money for investments that never were made. The crimes are alleged to have happened between 2003 and last year.
