Alleged ND drug kingpin says he will plead guilty

FARGO — An East Grand Forks, Minn., man accused of organizing a drug trafficking ring that supplied heroin, cocaine, marijuana and other drugs across North Dakota and Minnesota says he will plead guilty.

Federal authorities say 26-year-old Noah Bergland was the leader of a conspiracy to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine and more than 100 grams of heroin. He's one of 19 people charged in the case.

Bergland's lawyer filed a change of plea notice Monday in federal court.

Prosecutors say the drugs were picked up in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and elsewhere and sold to distributors and customers in Fargo, Grand Forks, Williston, Alexandria, Minn., and Thief River Falls, Minn.

Bergland is charged with four counts, including continuing criminal enterprise.

A plea hearing has not been scheduled.
