Man hospitalized after aircraft crashes near Manvel, ND

MANVEL, N.D. — A man was hospitalized Monday evening after crashing an Ultralight aircraft into a wheat field east of Manvel, N.D., off Grand Forks County Road 33.

The pilot crashed the blue and pink aircraft about 300 yards into the field on the south side of County Road 33 just east of County Road 18.

First responders had to drive through over three feet of wheat to reach the aircraft, which witnesses said the pilot flew in the area on a regular basis.

A witness said the pilot suffered a compound fracture in one of his legs. The aircraft was turned over on its back when sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene around 7:45 p.m., but it is unknown if that is how it landed.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol assisted Altru Ambulance and the Grand Forks Sheriff’s Department, but a patrolman said the Federal Aviation Administration was taking over the investigation of the crash.
