NDSU golfer Anderson receives coveted Summit League honor
It’s an honor that the conference advertises as its most prestigious. And she’ll have less than 24 hours to think about it on U.S. soil.
Anderson leaves today for the World University Golf Championships at a course in Liberec, Czech Republic, located outside of Prague. She’ll be one of three players on the U.S. team in a stroke-play format that uses scores from two of the three players each day.
“There are a lot of good players from different countries, and it’s always great to make new friends,” Anderson said.
Twenty-one countries will be represented in the event, which is in its 14th year. Simply competing at an international level, she said, is a great experience in itself.
Liberec is a town of about 100,000 people. The host school is the Technical University of Liberec for the event and will be held at the Ypsilon Golf Club that was opened in 2006.
Anderson’s U.S. teammates are Caroline Powers from Michigan State, Emilie Burger from Georgia and Lauren Stratton from Vanderbilt. Three of the players will comprise the team and the other will play as an individual.
It will be the second overseas tourney for Anderson, who competed for Team USA in the Curtis Cup that pits the U.S. vs. Great Britain and Ireland in a Ryder Cup format.
“It’s really been a good year,” said NDSU head coach Matt Johnson. “Obviously, it’s been a super consistent year. It’s such a difference when you can count on her and she never has an off-day.”
Anderson said she was honored just to be nominated. She led the Summit in strokes-per-round average by almost three shots and carries a 3.96 grade point average in accounting.
The award is voted on by the Summit League’s faculty representatives.
“I don’t know how much else you can do,” Johnson said. “She does so much for us and the college game and also gets involved in everything she can. I don’t know what else she could fit in.”
