Salentine helps Fargo Post 2 best Blues
“I just got ahead right away and that helped out a lot,” Salentine said. “Hitting my fastball helped me throw my off speed for strikes a lot more.”
Salentine found himself in trouble in the bottom of the ninth after Tyson Schoenborn hit a RBI single that scored center fielder Chris Beach and brought the winning run to the plate. But Salentine kept his focus and struck out Cody Rahman and Mac Schultz for the win.
“He came out and pitched the way I know Nick Salentine to pitch and that was huge.” Fargo’s head coach Luke Rustad said.
Fargo wasted no time getting the bats rolling with Matt Schalow hitting a single in the second inning. His hit was followed by base hits from Joe Hallock and Issac Rerick.
Schalow scored on a passed ball and Gunnar Linstaedt hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Hallock and take the 3-0 lead after two.
Jon Nygaard led Fargo on offense with three hits and two RBI. Linstaedt added two hits and drove in one run.
Fargo had an opportunity to tack on a few more runs in the seventh inning, but Moorhead short stop Seth Blaser converted a hard hit ball from Lincoln Voss into a double play to get out of the inning.
Aaron Wilmer put Moorhead on the board with a RBI single that drove in first baseman Schultz.
Moorhead had runners on first and second in the fourth, but Tyson Schoenborn hit into a double play to end the inning and leave Moorhead three runs down.
Schoenborn tallied an RBI for Moorhead and starting pitcher Jared Hendrickson had three hits. Schultz batted 2-for-3 and Schoenborn finished with one hit and one RBI.
“This season, I think our defense has been sturdy.” Rustad said. “I feel we are a defensive club with good pitching and hopefully our bats start catching up. I really like our attitude.”
