Moorhead police chief a finalist for chief job in St. Cloud

MOORHEAD – Police Chief David Ebinger has been named one of five finalists for the position of police chief of St. Cloud, Minn., according to a St. Cloud city official.

Ebinger said he is “happy” in Moorhead, and this is simply an opportunity he wanted to explore.

“It certainly should not be interpreted as any discontent here (in Moorhead),” Ebinger said Monday.

Ebinger will travel to St. Cloud on Wednesday to interview with a 12-person community committee – including the president of St. Cloud State University and the superintendent of schools – St. Cloud City Administrator Mike Williams said.

Williams said the top five will be cut down to a top three after the Wednesday interviews. After narrowing down to top three, St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis will further process the applications before choosing the new chief, Williams said.

“Our hope was that we’d have someone in place before the new school year starts this fall,” Williams said.
