UPDATED: Dilworth police say stabbing suspect turned himself in

DILWORTH – Police say a man suspected of stabbing a woman in the street outside a mobile home here early Monday turned himself in at the Dilworth Police Department at about 2 p.m. after an investigator contacted him by phone.

Kenton Wayne Stillday, 37, of Fargo, was arrested without incident and is being held at the Clay County Jail, Dilworth Police Chief Josh Ebert said in a news release.

Police are recommending a first-degree domestic assault charge against Stillday, the release said.

Ebert said officers responded at 3:57 a.m. to a report of a disturbance in the street in the 700 block of 2½ Avenue Northwest. They found an adult female had suffered a stab wound and multiple lacerations.

The unidentified woman, in her mid-30s, was taken by ambulance to a Fargo hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, Ebert said.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle before officers arrived, he said. Police spent the morning searching for him before he turned himself in.

The suspect and victim are acquainted, Ebert said.

Police recovered the knife believed to have been used in the stabbing, and there were witnesses to the incident, he said.

The Moorhead Police Department and Clay County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
