Marsh wins All-City golf tournament on final holeFARGO – The wind and rain stayed away from Edgewood Golf Course Thursday as the Fargo-Moorhead Women’s All-City golf tournament concluded.
Kathleen Marsh took the lead from LeeAnn Townsend on the final hole as she shot a 78 to finish the in first place, shooting a 157 overall.
“It feels pretty good,” Marsh said. “I was getting a little nervous. She beat me on the front nine by one shot and was beating me halfway through the back.”
Marsh shot a double bogey on the No. 8 hole and ended the front nine at 4-over-par 40.
Marsh was not too happy with her performance to that point.
“I didn’t play very well,” Marsh said. “I didn’t make any birdies, but my hitting was fine. I just didn’t putt well. I thought I should have played a lot better.”
By carding a 39 on the front nine, Townsend tied Marsh heading into the back nine. The two were neck-and-neck until the last hole.
Marsh’s par putt on No. 18 gave her the lead for good.
Townsend had a chance to send the match to a playoff, but bogeyed the hole to finish in second.
Both Marsh and Townsend shot 6-over-par in the second round at Edgewood.
“It was a great day out there. We both were going back and forth,” Townsend said. “She made a great putt on the last hole and I made bogey. She played great and I’m very happy with the way I played.”
Townsend shot a 40 each on the front and back nine at Village Green on Wednesday to enter the second round of the tournament trailing Marsh by one stroke. Marsh shot 2-over-par on the front nine with a 38 at Village and finished the back nine with a 41.
