Barnesville woman hospitalized in Friday crash on I-94 upgraded to 'guarded' conditionMOORHEAD – A Barnesville woman injured in a head-on crash Friday on Interstate 94 east of here remained hospitalized in guarded condition Monday in Fargo, a Sanford Medical Center spokeswoman said.
The Minnesota State Patrol said 58-year-old Roberta Haspel was eastbound on I-94 about 7 miles outside of Moorhead when her 2010 Chevy Impala entered a construction zone and crossed into the westbound lane, where it collided with a Freightliner driven by 65-year-old Gary Sather of Bismarck.
The semi caught fire in the median, and afternoon rush-hour traffic was backed up and rerouted as firefighters and other first responders tended to the scene.
Haspel was initially listed in critical condition. Sather was treated at Essentia Health in Fargo for non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, patrol Sgt. Jesse Grabow said Monday.
