Christianson retires; Alm acquires practice

Dr. Matthew J. Alm has acquired the dental practice of Dr. Wayne E. Christianson at Family Dentistry, Moorhead. Christianson has retired.

Alm, a Fargo native, graduated from North Dakota State University and the University of Minnesota Dental School.

He previously practiced in the Minneapolis area and has more than 10 years of experience in general dentistry.

The office staff, hours and phone number remain the same.

Canola plant begins operations near Hallock

Northstar Agri Industries near Hallock, Minn., has become the first operational canola processing plant in Minnesota.

The new plant can process 1,000 tons of canola seed per day, producing food-grade refined canola oil and canola meal, a high protein dairy cow and livestock feed ingredient.

The plant reached its rated capacity of 1,000 tons per day of canola seed on June 9, 2012, 22 days after starting up on May 18. Groundbreaking was in mid-January.

The products produced by Northstar Agri Industries, a subsidiary of PICO Holdings Inc., are marketed by Land O’Lakes Purina Feed.

A communitywide grand opening event is planned on Aug. 8 that will include tours of the plant for the public.
