Incumbents cruise in Fargo Parks raceFARGO – For two Fargo Park Board incumbents, re-election was a walk in the – well, you know.
In complete but unofficial results, Joel Vettel, a Fargo Police Lieutenant, won a third term with 38 percent of the vote.
Barb Johnson won her fourth term with 32 percent.
Vettel credited the Park District staff for making him and Johnson look good.
“I think it speaks volumes for not just us but also for the staff of the Fargo Park District and how well things have gone,” he said. “I think we kind of rode on their coattails.”
Johnson did not answer a call seeking comment Tuesday night.
Challenger Ryan Bergseth, a sales supervisor for family beer distributor Bergseth Bros., had 18 percent of the vote. Dan Dumas, a locked-out American Crystal Sugar worker, had 11 percent.
Bergseth said he wanted to bring a younger voice to the board. Dumas said he wanted to give back to a recreation community.
Board members serve four-year terms and receive an annual salary of $5,256. New board members take office in July.
