Mocktails article is appreciatedThank you for featuring Mocktails for Moms (SheSays section, May 24). Ensuring an alcohol-free pregnancy is so important to the health of the baby. Each year, an estimated 8,500 babies are born prenatally exposed to alcohol. Many of those children are later diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. This disorder results in cognitive, physical and behavioral impairments – a lifelong disability that is 100 percent preventable if moms like those featured in your article abstain from drinking alcohol while pregnant.
The Minnesota Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome’s mission is to bring about awareness and promote an alcohol-free pregnancy as well as offering support to those individuals diagnosed with FASD and their families. Each year, MOFAS has a mocktail contest. Check out the winning recipes on our website at www.mofas.org.
If you know someone who is pregnant, support their choice to have an alcohol-free pregnancy by making available any of the delicious mocktails featured in the article. If you know someone who is pregnant and using alcohol, encourage them to check out our website for more information.
