Tournament a special successTwelve teams played in this year’s Samuel Dunnuck JV Tournament, held at Bennett Field. What a success.
Congratulations to the champions, West Fargo’s JV squad, which played great baseball both days. Also, thanks to all the volunteers, because nothing would have happened without your efforts and hard work.
This year’s tournament was made extra special by Dianne Kappelman Beyer, Samuel’s mother, speaking to players and parents prior to the start of the championship game. I have never witnessed such courage from an individual who has lost so much. Dianne talked about Samuel’s love for the game, and challenged the young men on the field to continue to follow their dreams.
I’m not sure how many in attendance noticed, but it had been dark and overcast all day long. Just as Dianne concluded, the clouds parted, and the sun broke through. Somehow, the field was brighter and warmer than at any other time I’ve been there. It lasted only 10 to 15 minutes. Just a coincidence, or maybe just Samuel smiling at the ballpark one more time.
Thanks again, Dianne.
