Berg: Think pink this summer
The pretty, whimsical hue is a tribute to the beauty and femininity of being a woman that has lasted for decades.
Last month Italian-born fashion design icon Elsa Schiaparelli was honored during a star-studded gala at the Costume Institute at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. The rest of us can also celebrate her for her shocking use of pink during the 1930s.
Schiaparelli made the color popular with celebrities like Marlene Dietrich and Katherine Hepburn.
The hue continues making a huge splash today, not only for spring and summer, but it’s also one of the hottest trends for fall.
You can see the pretty pigment on the runways of Alexander McQueen, Thakoon, Nina Ricci, Valentino and Celine.
Every shade of pink is present. The spectrum goes from gorgeous azalea pinks to bright corals and hot neons. There is also an array of romantic pastel pinks and sublime nude and blush tones.
Here are some of my personal fashion tips for incorporating this exquisite color into your wardrobe this season and into fall:
Are thinking to yourself, “I am just not a pink person?” Try a shade that works for you.
Pink has been said to be one of the most universally flattering colors on a woman. That’s likely because there are so many shades from which to choose. So find the perfect tone to suit your look as well as your personality.
If you have a more classic look, go for a light pastel, nude or blush pink. You can start with just a colored accessory, like a pastel pink printed scarf or blush-colored handbag. This will add sophistication, style, and femininity to anything you wear.
For those bold and daring, go for a shocking fuchsia pink dress and mix with a pair of nude patent leather pumps to tone it down.
Or try going the opposite direction with a subdued nude or blush pink dress and throw in the unexpected with a pair of hot pink heels to turn it up a notch!
Show your pretty side with sexy, bright coral dress and pair with a nude high heel sandal or pump.
Another super chic look is to mix hot pink with a bold red. I absolutely love this color combo. It screams confident and fun.
An easy look would be to mix a vibrant pink silk blouse with a bright red jean, pant or skirt and nude flat sandals or heels.
In fabrics, go with beautiful silks in tops dresses, skirts. Wear romantic florals and prints as wells as solids. This year’s pinks are not only soft and sweet, but also radiant and graphic.
For jewelry, I love rose gold worn with any shade of pink.
For make-up, try a rosy pink lipstick to add just a touch of pink to your outfit or spice things up with hot pink nail polish.
Whatever shade you choose, pink is guaranteed to brighten up your outfit and your mood.
So be a “girlie girl” this year and have some fun with this year’s “it” color!
