Otter Tail residents warned of mailbox bombsOTTERTAIL, Minn. – Two cases of potentially dangerous mailbox vandalism here have sheriff’s deputies warning people to use caution if they believe their mailboxes have been targeted.
In recent days, the Otter Tail Sheriff’s Office has responded twice to reports of hazardous chemical mixes placed in plastic bottles and stuffed into mailboxes. One exploded, but no injuries were reported. It is not yet known if the mixes were the same.
Officials are warning residents that a mailbox with foam or other possible evidence of a chemical reaction on or near it could be hazardous. Residents should not touch the mailbox and should contact law enforcement immediately.
