Boy charged in teen's fatal shooting in Mpls alleyMINNEAPOLIS — A 16-year-old boy is accused of fatally shooting another teen in a south Minneapolis alley after school last week.
The suspect, from Minneapolis, was charged Tuesday as a juvenile with second-degree murder. Prosecutors say they will seek to have him tried as an adult.
The victim — 16-year-old Trequan Sykes — was found shot twice in the back in the entryway of an apartment building. He died at HCMC.
The Star Tribune reports the suspect told police he brought the gun to South High School last Friday and hid it nearby. After classes he retrieved the revolver and walked into the alley behind Sykes' home and confronted him. The charges say he pulled out the gun and shot Sykes as Sykes tried to run back into the house.
