UPDATED: The Band Perry skipping out on RRVF to record new album

FARGO – The Red River Valley Fair’s biggest act of this year has put off its appearance until 2013 so the trio can record its second album.

The Band Perry postponed its July 11 date at the fairgrounds until next summer, the RRVF announced Tuesday morning.

Eli Young Band and Kip Moore will replace the country trio on July 11. Katie Armiger is still scheduled to open.

RJ Romeo, a senior account representative with the Romeo Entertainment Group used by the fair to schedule the band, said the week of the fair was the only time the band members could get together into the studio to record.

Part of the agreement the band signed with the fair, obtained by The Forum, doesn’t allow for cancellation of an event, but because the move is being classified as a postponement Romeo said the terms of the deal are not violated.

“This was a negotiation, not a straight-up cancellation,” Romeo said.

All parties involved looked at other options before ultimately deciding that the extenuating circumstances made postponing the only choice, he said.

“What we’re talking about is a career decision,” Romeo said. “They’re in the process of recording their second album – their second highly-anticipated album.”

To make up for postponing, Romeo said the band promised the fair it would play in 2013 for the same price as originally agreed upon for 2012.

Fair officials wouldn’t disclose the exact financial terms of the deal, citing confidentiality provisions in the contract.

“Now you have a band that’s going to be worth twice as much for the same price,” Romeo said, citing the act’s growing popularity.

The Band Perry said in the press release that it’s excited to record and share the new album with fans.

“We hope that everyone will understand why we can’t be at the Red River Valley Fair this year, but we are looking forward to playing next year,” the band said.
