Laundry fire causes Cass jail lockdown SundayFARGO – A fire in an industrial laundry dryer led to a lockdown Sunday at the Cass County Jail, authorities said.
The fire was reported to a correctional officer about 9 a.m. by two inmates working in the laundry, said Sgt. Tara Morris of the sheriff’s office.
The officer then tried to extinguish the fire until the fire department arrived, Morris said.
In keeping with jail protocol, all inmates were locked down until the incident was under control, she said.
No injuries were reported from the blaze, but both inmate workers were examined by medical personnel, Morris said.
An arson investigator is looking at the incident, but it appears the fire was caused by a mechanical failure in the dryer, Morris said.
