Tornado warning for Kittson, Marshall expires; storms drop some hailGRAND FORKS - The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning Sunday evening in Kittson and Marshall counties in northwest Minnesota and Pembina and Walsh counties in northeast North Dakota.
At 6:09 p.m., the agency’s Grand Forks office said that storm spotters had observed a tornado near Drayton, N.D., which was confirmed by radar. The storm moved east into the Stephen, Minn., area within 14 minutes.
At 7:20 p.m., trained spotters reported a funnel cloud near Alvarado, Minn.
Hail accompanied the storm, including 0.25-inch hail near Oakwood, N.D., and 0.75-inch hail near Red Lake Falls, Minn.
The tornado warning expired by midevening, and there were no immediate reports of any damage The storms moved southeast later in the evening, and at 10 p.m. extended from east of Thief River Falls to just south of Fargo, weather service radar showed.
