Packers move on to Class A softball title gameWEST FARGO – The West Fargo softball team is back in a game it has become accustomed to being in.
The Packers cruised to a 10-0 win over Bismarck Century in the semifinals of the North Dakota Class A state softball tournament on Friday at Elmwood Park.
The victory clinches a return trip to the championship game for No. 1 East-seeded West Fargo, which will play the West’s No. 1 seed Minot Ryan at 6 p.m. today.
West Fargo (32-2) scored seven runs in the first inning to seize control. Century starter Sarah Lardy walked three batters that all scored.
“I think we showed really good patience at the beginning,” West Fargo head coach Pat Johnson said. “She (Lardy) struggled and I think she was a little nervous, which helped us. We took what they gave us to start with.”
Lexi Lennon was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Brook Rheault was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
West Fargo has won the last three sanctioned state championships and 11 non-sanctioned titles prior to that.
“Now we have to focus on a good Minot Ryan team,” Johnson said. “They want to be here and they have played their best ball down the stretch.”
The Patriots (27-6) play Fargo North in the third-place game at 2 p.m. today.
