Srewart's no-hitter helps Minot Ryan top Fargo North in semifinalsWEST FARGO – Hannah Stewart’s first start at pitcher during the North Dakota Class A state softball tournament was not bad.
Her second start was even better.
Stewart posted 12 strikeouts and tossed a no-hitter leading the Lions to an 8-0 win over Fargo North on Friday at Elmwood Park.
“It’s kind of like the icing on the cake,” Stewart said of the no-hitter. “I wasn’t even thinking about it honestly. I didn’t even know about it until they announced it.”
Stewart struck out the side in the first and third innings. She improves to 18-2 on the year and now has 161 strikeouts this season.
It didn’t appear like Stewart, a freshman, had her same dominating arsenal of pitches she displayed in Thursday’s quarterfinals win over Devils Lake when she walked North’s April Krenelka to lead off the game. She hit Mara Teschendorf later in the first, but after that the Spartans never had another base runner.
Stewart retired the final 20 batters, including a strikeout of Anna Mellick to seal the no-hitter.
