Rocky Schneider leads pack in reported donations in Cass County Commission primary

FARGO – Cass County Commission candidate Rocky Schneider has garnered $7,900 in reportable donations, financial disclosure documents show.

Local candidates appearing on the June 12 ballot were required to file pre-primary financial disclosure documents Thursday.

Candidates must report any single campaign donation of $200 or more. The reports don’t require disclosure of total campaign fundraising.

According to his filing, Schneider received $3,000 alone from the political action committee of the North Dakota Association of Builders.

Schneider, who’s seeking the District 1 commission seat, is the public affairs director for the Fargo-Moorhead Homebuilders Association.

Another $3,000 in reportable donations came from members of Schneider’s family, which is politically active throughout North Dakota.

Other Cass County Commission candidates reported the following in reportable donations:

* Steve Sprague, District 1: $1,700

* Mary Scherling and Mark Weston, District 5: $1,000

* Brandy Pyle, District 5: $500

* Those reporting no contributions in excess of $200 were: Chad Peterson, Frank Anderson and Billy Nustad in District 1; Ken Pawluk of District 3; Earl Erdmann, Marty Johnson and Craig Hakanson in District 5.

District 5 candidate Mike Bice had not filed a disclosure report as of 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

Cass County commissioners are elected countywide but must live in the district where they’re seeking a seat. The top two primary vote-getters from each district will advance to the November election.

Meanwhile, the four Fargo City Commission candidates disclosed nearly $10,000 in reportable donations among them in advance of the June city election. The top two vote-getters will fill two of the commission’s five seats.

* Mike Williams, incumbent: $3,750

* Melissa Sobolik: $2,600

* Dave Piepkorn, incumbent: $2,350

* Anthony Gehrig: $1,060
