5 people apply for ND Board of Higher Education seat

BISMARCK — Five people are competing for an opening on North Dakota's Board of Higher Education.

Two members resigned from the board recently with about a year left on their terms. Claus Lembke and Richie Smith said serving on the board took too much time.

One applicant is Kristin Hedger of Dickinson. She says the board's work load is a concern. But she thinks it can be managed by using technology.

Hedger is vice president of Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing. The company makes equipment for military and civilian aircraft.

Other applicants are MDU Resources Group internal auditor Rebecca Dorwart, North Dakota Barley Council director Steven Edwardson, Turtle Mountain Community College administrator Carmelita Lamb and Bismarck school board member Scott Halvorson.

A screening committee meets Friday to choose three finalists for the appointment.
