FEA announces picks for Fargo School BoardFARGO – The Fargo Education Association has endorsed two incumbents and two challengers for the four Fargo School Board seats on the June 12 ballot.
Incumbents John Strand and Robin Nelson and newcomers Marty Livingood and Jordan Franzen earned the union’s backing for four-year terms on the board, FEA President Kim Belgarde said Wednesday.
Belgarde said the FEA interviewed all but one of the 11 candidates.
The candidate not interviewed, Brandi Malarky, told the FEA and The Forum that she had sought to withdraw from the race but could not get her name removed from the ballot. Marlarky said Wednesday she is not running an active candidacy.
The endorsed candidates favored good working conditions for teachers and hiring top-flight teachers, Belgarde said.
Two incumbents, board President Jim Johnson and longtime board member Paul Meyers, did not get the union’s backing.
“Some of their positions we didn’t agree with from our last negotiation,” Belgarde said. “And we just think it’s time for some new perspectives.”
