No injuries in fire at sugar beet plant in NDWAHPETON, N.D. — No one was hurt in a fire at a sugar beet processing plant north of Wahpeton.
Firefighters had the Tuesday evening blaze at the Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative plant under control in about an hour. Authorities temporarily closed two Richland County highways.
The cause of the fire was not immediately determined, but county Emergency Services Director Brett Lambrecht tells KFGO radio that he believes it started in a belt system.
Lambrecht says firefighters had to keep the flames away from tanks containing chemicals. The company says no hazardous materials were released.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
