Wahpeton sales tax generated $19M since 1991WAHPETON, N.D. — The city of Wahpeton has collected more than $19 million in city sales tax in 20 years.
The 2011 economic development report was presented last week at the city council meeting.
The city sales tax started in 1991 and had its 20th year anniversary last July.
Economic development director Jane Priebe says the sales tax contributed to more than $14 million in economic development projects over the past 20 years.
The city tax rate stands at 2 percent after a 1 percent tax was approved in 1991 and half cent taxes were approved in 1999 and 2009.
