Benefit for man on heart transplant waiting listSABIN, Minn. – A benefit for a 46-year-old man who was recently added to the heart transplant list will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. June 10 at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Gary Schellack was diagnosed with congestive heart failure at the age of 29. He underwent treatment, and his heart function returned to nearly normal.
In March, Schellack was transferred from Sanford Medical Center to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester for further evaluation and treatment because his condition had worsened.
Doctors at the Mayo Clinic determined he needs a left ventricular assist device, which is implanted through open-heart surgery and will help his heart pump until a donor heart becomes available.
