Prescribed burns finished on Sheyenne GrasslandsLISBON, N.D. — The U.S. Forest Service has finished prescribed burns on nearly 6,000 acres in the Sheyenne National Grasslands in southeastern North Dakota.
Officials say the planned burns replicate the role of natural fires in the prairie ecosystem and help keep native plants healthy.
The Forest Service says this year's burns were the first in three years because of extreme wet conditions in recent years.
