Fargo Shanley defeats North

FARGO – Fargo Shanley senior Nick Salentine put a tough grounder in play to second base with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning.

North was unable to produce an out on the play, allowing the Deacons to plate the go-ahead run in a 3-2 win over the Spartans in the quarterfinals of the North Dakota East Region baseball tournament on Thursday at North High School.

The Deacons advance to play Grand Forks Red River at 5 p.m. today in the semifinals at Bennett Elementary.

North will play Fargo South in a loser-out game at 7 p.m. today at Fargo North High School.

Grand Forks Central 3

Camran Bonnema was

2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to help West Fargo to a 9-3 win over Grand Forks Central in the quarterfinals of the East Region baseball tournament on Thursday at Bennett Elementary.

Zach Steckler also was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, triple and two RBIs for the Packers who play Wahpeton at 7 p.m. today in the semifinals at Bennett Elementary.

Tyler Gripentrog struck out five in seven shutout innings as Wahpeton defeated Fargo Davies in a first-round tournament game Thursday.

Taylor Steen had three hits – including two doubles – as Grand Forks Red River pulled out a victory against Fargo South in the first round.
