West Fargo man faces child porn chargesWEST FARGO – After an investigation that involved local, state and federal authorities, a West Fargo man has been charged with four counts of possessing child pornography.
West Fargo police were contacted April 17 by a special agent with the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation about an IP address associated with three photo or video files of child pornography, court documents state.
Two of the files were confirmed as child pornography through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
A special agent with the Department of Homeland Security subpoenaed the subscriber information and found that the IP address belonged to 24-year-old Brett William Dauer in West Fargo, court documents state.
Authorities carried out a search warrant at Dauer’s residence on April 18, seizing a laptop computer later found to contain child pornography from his upstairs bedroom, court documents allege.
Each of the four Class C felony charges filed Friday carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison, a $5,000 fine and offender registration.
