'Click It or Ticket' seat belt enforcement blitz begins today

FARGO – Law enforcement agencies across North Dakota boosted seat-belt enforcement efforts starting Monday as part of a campaign to crack down on unbelted drivers.

The “Click It or Ticket” enforcement blitz is scheduled through June 3.

The state Department of Transportation, along with local law enforcement agencies and traffic safety advocates, will work together to reduce the number of highway fatalities and injuries due to people not wearing their seat belts, Fargo police stated in a news release.

As part of the national “Click It or Ticket” message, the DOT recently displayed crashed vehicles at 11 high schools across the state to encourage individuals of all ages to buckle up every time they get into a vehicle.

Last year, one unbelted occupant died every five days in North Dakota, and 66 percent of individuals killed in motor vehicle crashes were not wearing their seat belts, the news release stated.
