VIDEO: German runner wins men's Fargo marathon

FARGO – Oliver Hoffmann earned $1,500 for winning the Fargo Marathon on Saturday afternoon. It was enough to pay for his plane ticket from Germany and a victory party.

There was plenty to celebrate. He made his first trip to the United States a memorable one by winning the race almost wire-to-wire. He put a small pack of runners behind with a second mile time of 5:25 and was never challenged finishing in 2 hours, 28 minutes, 15 seconds.

It got to the point where he looked back on several occasions to not see anybody in second place. His lead at the halfway point of the race was estimated to be at least a couple of minutes and that stretched to about four minutes with six miles to go.
