South Dakota woman's leg severed by ND trainMANDAN, N.D. — Mandan police say a Rapid City, S.D., woman has had part of her leg cut off by a train.
Lt. Lori Flaten tells the Bismarck Tribune (http://bit.ly/KJCBM5) that BNSF Railway employees called police around 2:30 a.m. Friday to report a woman in the rail yard. Employees were trying to find her and help her get out of the yard, but she kept running away.
Flaten says the 20-year-old woman called dispatch minutes later and said a train had run over her leg. The leg was severed between the ankle and knee, but the woman is expected to survive. Her name was not released.
The BNSF Railway yard is private property. Flaten says signs are posted and the property is fenced as much as possible.
No charges are expected.
