Motorists urged to use caution near marathonFARGO – Drivers are urged to allow extra time to reach their destinations during Fargo Marathon events Friday and Saturday. Several roads will be closed, and traffic numbers will be higher than usual, affecting travel throughout Fargo, according to a release from the city.
The following areas are expected to be congested, and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes:
- University Drive between 12th Avenue North and 19th Avenue will be closed from about 5 to 8 p.m. Friday during the 5K run/walk on Friday. The road will close at 5 a.m. on Saturday and remain closed until late in the afternoon when the marathon is done.
- South University Drive between 30th Avenue South and 32nd Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction from about 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
- 10th Street North is under construction. Traffic will be detoured on 18th Street North via 12th Avenue and 19th Avenue.
- 10th Street South will be reduced to one lane for northbound traffic between Second Avenue South and First Avenue North between 7 a.m. and about 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Drivers are advised to use 25th Street as an alternate to University Drive on the south side of town. Those traveling to the Fargodome are asked to use 12th Avenue North or 19th Avenue North via Interstate 29. If the destination is north of the Fargodome, it is suggested to use County Road 20 or 19th Avenue North from I-29.
