Bennigan’s in Moorhead closes doors; Grizzly’s in Fargo to do the same
Bennigan’s Grill & Tavern, 3333 Highway 10 E., Moorhead, closed Monday night, according to this message posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page Tuesday morning:
“We’ve served our last Monte Cristo & Turkey O’Toole. The Bennigan’s Moorhead closed its doors for good last night. Thank you Fargo-Moorhead!!!!!”
The restaurant opened in 2000.
Attempts to reach a company official for comment were not successful.
In Fargo, Grizzly’s Grill in the West Acres mall plans to close May 27, said general manager Chris Impola.
The restaurant opened about 10 years ago.
Before that, the location was home to The Grainery, which opened in 1973.
Impola said competition from the mall food court was a factor in the decision to close Grizzly’s.
“It’s just really, really tough in this particular mall with the food court,” Impola said. “It’s a convenience factor when you go to the mall.”
He said Grizzly’s is looking for another spot in the area.
“We’re just trying to find the right location,” he said.
West Acres manager Rusty Papachek said retailers, including a food business, have expressed an interest in the space Grizzly’s is leaving.
He said it will be the mall’s only vacancy.
“We’re full and have a waiting list,” Papachek said, adding that it will take a little time to determine what will be moving in.
Impola said most of the 38 employees at Grizzly’s have been with the restaurant for five years or more.
The business made sure news of the closing did not come as a surprise to workers.
“What we’ve done, since we do care about our staff, we let them know a month ahead of time so they can look for employment,” Impola said, adding that it has caused stress because employees are already leaving.
