Driver hops in back seat of car while it’s movingFARGO – Giving new meaning to the term back-seat driver, police say a Fargo teenager being pulled over for running a red light early Wednesday jumped from the driver’s seat to the back seat while the car was still moving.
Sgt. Mike Erbes said a patrol officer tried to stop the gold Dodge Stratus at 2:43 a.m. for running a red light on 13th Avenue South in front of the main entrance to West Acres mall.
When the officer turned on his emergency lights, the car’s 19-year-old driver leaped into the back seat while it was still moving at about 35 mph, Erbes said.
A passenger in the eastbound car was able to slide over and stop the car after it bumped into the center median a couple of times.
Erbes said the driver, Abdirahman Abdi Muse, told police he panicked because he didn’t have a driver’s license. Alcohol
wasn’t a factor, Erbes said.
Muse was arrested on suspicion of reckless endangerment.
Erbes said it was fortunate no one was injured in the bizarre incident.
“We don’t see that happen very often, if ever, in a career,” he said.
