ND tribe seeks federal funding for health staff homesNEW TOWN, N.D. — The Three Affiliated Tribes in North Dakota is seeking federal help to build homes for the staff of a newly opened health center in New Town.
Crews this week are finishing up infrastructure work such as water and sewer service for the housing site, but the tribe needs money to build the homes.
The Minot Daily News reports that Tribal Chairman Tex Hall recently testified before a Congressional subcommittee on the need for at least $12 million. He says the tribe has done its part by spending about $1.6 million on the infrastructure work.
The federally funded $20 million Elbowoods Memorial Health Center opened last October. Hall says more than 60 people work there.
