Water levels rising at Rice Lake

RICE LAKE, N.D. — Water is on the rise at Rice Lake, a popular getaway a few miles southwest of Minot.

The Minot Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/KSODzF) that several lakeside homes have already become flooded. Some residents have been forced to move their homes and others have abandoned homes to the rising water.

In an eight-day period earlier this month, Rice Lake rose eight inches.

Rice Lake resident Bob Hargrave says the lake is currently rising about three-quarters of an inch a day and the road on the north side is starting to get wet again.

The road on the south side of Rice Lake was raised in an effort to maintain access to a low section of lakefront. Dikes have been built and water is being pumped.
