How about sick days for our mothers?

Forget flowers and perfume – what moms could really use this Mother’s Day are paid sick days.

More than four in 10 private-sector workers – and 80 percent of low-wage workers – cannot earn paid sick days to care for their own health. Women-dominated industries are among the least likely to offer paid sick days.

For example, nearly three-quarters of child care workers and food service workers lack access to paid sick time. Paid sick days aren’t just a great thing for moms; they’re good for the economy, too.

Research shows that the costs of replacing workers, including advertising for, interviewing and training new employees often far outweighs the cost of retaining employees by offering paid sick days.

This Mother’s Day, Congress should make Mom proud and pass paid sick days.
