Moorhead Bike Night gets rolling Thursday
Councilwoman and Bike Night organizer Nancy Otto said all that is needed is an interest in motorcycles or a curiosity to meet new people.
The kickoff event is planned for the parking lot of the Moorhead Center Mall, with events through the summer on the second Thursday of June, July and August.
Otto said she hopes the event, which was inspired by West Fargo’s Cruise Night, will be an annual event. Next year, a cruising route will likely be planned. The bikes will be confined to the parking lot this year due to Main Avenue construction.
Otto said she couldn’t guess how many may turn out for the event, but interest is hitting a fever pitch.
“The response has just been tremendous,” Otto said.
Local vendors will bring the newest models available for display and antique motorcycles are also expected to be shown off.
Riders are asked to enter the mall’s east parking lot from Seventh Street between Center Avenue and First Avenue North.
Other vehicles are asked to enter on the west side of the mall and park in either the Herberger’s parking ramp or one of the nearby lots.
Overflow parking will be in the parking lot of U.S. Bank near Scheels.
Currently the weather forecast looks good, Otto said, but in case of rain, the kickoff event will be rescheduled for June 14.
Paul Lenzmeier, who leads Bethel Riders, a church motorcycle group, plans to hold a blessing of the bikes at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Melberg Christian Book & Gift, 16 4th St. N.
