St. Michael woman pleads guilty to theft, conspiracyFARGO — A 38-year-old St. Michael woman has pleaded guilty to theft from a tribal organization and conspiracy to embezzle from a tribal organization in two separate cases.
U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says Tanya Jetty was the compliance officer for the Spirit Lake Vocational Rehabilitation Program from January 1998 to May 2011, and she allowed more than $1,000 to be misapplied to benefit herself and other family members.
Purdon says she also submitted an application for fuel assistance to the Spirit Lake Tribe's Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program for October 2008 to May 2010 and knowingly failed to include the total income earned by the occupants of her household.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 27 in Grand Forks.
