Concordia graduate installed as first female bishop of Minneapolis ELCA synod

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The first woman to head the Minneapolis synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has officially begun her duties.

The Rev. Ann Svennungsen was installed during a ceremony Sunday. Minnesota Public Radio News (http://bit.ly/ISIORj) reports she already is meeting with leaders of the 155 congregations and ministries that are part of the synod.

The Concordia College graduate and former senior pastor at Moorhead’s Trinity Lutheran says the ELCA already has a strong track record of working with other congregations to serve the common good. She says that's something she will continue under her leadership.

The Minneapolis Area Synod is the largest in the ELCA.
