Weather Talk: It’s critical to have a plan if under tornado warning

What would you do if a tornado were coming your way? What would your children do? How would you get information?

One of the oldest methods of warning people, at least in cities and towns, is the old-fashioned, Cold War-technology tornado siren. Different communities have varying policies on when and how to activate the weather sirens, so it is important to know the policy in your community.

There is also the Code Red phone call system. Some get their weather information via text message.

No matter how you get your weather warnings, it is important that the information trigger a planned response. When you are under a tornado warning, what steps will you take? It is critical to have a plan in place so you are can avoid making a poor decision under pressure. All people, families, businesses – anyplace people gather – should have a plan in place so people know what they are supposed to do.
