Authorities identify man shot by police in Twin Cities suburbAPPLE VALLEY, Minn. — Authorities say an Apple Valley man who was killed by a police officer had been shot multiple times.
The man is identified Monday as 48-year-old Carl Anthony Tatum. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner says he died of blood loss from multiple gunshot wounds.
Authorities say a woman called Apple Valley police Sunday evening to report that her live-in boyfriend assaulted and choked her.
Officers Tommie Booth and Tara Becker responded. They coaxed Tatum outside, but then he ran back inside the house. Authorities say Booth followed and saw that Tatum had armed himself with a handgun.
Police say Tatum shot at Officer Booth, and Booth returned fire. Tatum was pronounced dead at the hospital. The two officers are on routine administrative leave while the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigates.
