The Minnesota School of Business in Moorhead will be closed on May 18 so campus staff, faculty and available students can volunteer at the Fargo Marathon 5K.
The event is expected to be the largest in the marathon’s eight-year history, with more than 10,000 participants.
For every registration for the race, $1 will be donated to fund the purchase of running shoes for 1,000 underprivileged children in the Red River Valley.
Realtors hosting Nationwide Open House
The Fargo-Moorhead Area Association of Realtors is participating in the Realtor Nationwide Open House today and Sunday.
Throughout the weekend, Realtors across the country will hold open houses and will be focusing attention on the benefits of homeownership.
NDSU establishes private-sector program
North Dakota State University has established the Campus Community Partner program to recognize private-sector collaborations with the university that benefit the community. The first Campus Community Partner is Sanford Health.
NDSU and Sanford’s most recent collaboration is the Center for Life Sciences Research and Applications that will conduct research on human genomics and bioinformatics.
The initial focus is expected to include research on breast cancer and certain rare diseases in children.
Midwest Junk publishes junker’s directory
Fargo-based Midwest Junk has published “The Junker’s Guide to Minnesota and North Dakota.”
The directory includes listings for vintage, antique and junk stores by city; events including junk festivals and flea markets; and articles on junker’s favorite spots, designing with junk and a do-it-yourself family keepsake project.

Disney creative director to speak at luncheon
The American Advertising Federation of North Dakota monthly educational meeting will feature Christopher Chapman, global creativity and innovation director at Disney.
The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 15 at the Fargo Holiday Inn. Admission is free for AAF-ND members, $45 for nonmembers and $15 for non-member students. RSVP by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Chapman’s experience at Disney is that of a dreamer, designer, idea guy, creative catalyst and facilitator of brainstorms. His presentation will provide tools to break down the creative walls and share ways to solve any problem, explain how our minds work, discuss work environment, behaviors and processes.
The tips he will provide will help everyone become more efficient problem-solvers in any line of business.
Retirement party set May 5 for Walt Erdmann
An open house retirement party for Walt Erdmann of Walt’s Tree Service, West Fargo, is scheduled from 8 p.m. to midnight May 5 at the VFW, 308 Sheyenne St., West Fargo.
Erdmann is retiring from the company after 33 years. His children, Sherrie Moore and Troy Erdmann, will continue to operate the business.
Cake and appetizers will be served, and a cash bar will be available.
