Letter to the editor: Is this definition of protect and serve?

Last Thursday (April 19) as I was picking up my son from Fargo North, my car died right in front of the school and would not start. My son went inside North to find a security guard to jump my car, but that didn’t work, so my son pushed my car into an open parking spot. He and I started walking, crossing 19th Street and struggling a bit as he had books to carry and I had a few important items to carry along with our little Shih Tzu as I didn’t bring a leash. It was cool outside that day and I was not dressed for walking.

The entire time this was all going on a police officer sat in his squad car and watched. Are they really here to serve and protect? Or are they just waiting and watching for people violating rules so they can “serve” a ticket?
