Letter to the editor: Good cop, loving husband, fatherIt must be wonderful to be perfect. I wouldn’t know because I have made mistakes. In fact, I also left my car unlocked the evening of April 11 and my $400 Coach bag was stolen. What? Not interesting enough to put in The Forum?
Is that why The Forum thought it important to bring up an incident that happened 10 years ago that my family has already been through? (“Thief lifts items from unlocked police car,” April 24.) You didn’t think we had suffered enough the first time? A couple weeks of unpaid suspension, the pain it caused our family? The shame?
Here is what you should have printed: That my husband, Fargo police officer Bret Witte, is a good cop. That a couple years after the incident in 2002 we got married and he received an award from the mayor for the most DUIs given that year. That he also got a letter of recommendation for apprehending a robbery suspect. That he has taken a staggering amount of illegal drugs off the streets since joining narcotics. That he puts a bulletproof vest on every day to protect people who are disrespectful and hurtful because that is who he is.
He is an amazing police officer, great husband and a loving father.
It’s time to move on, Forum. We have.
